Bhima river clean-up drive

PMI Pune Deccan India Chapter and Faurecia India Pvt. Ltd’s “Namami Bhime” in Rajgurunagar
Project Management Institute Pune-Deccan India Chapter and Faurecia India Pvt. Ltd. organised river clean-up drive on 15th June 2019 to remove water hyacinth from River Bhima in Rajgurunagar, Pune. More than 250 volunteers contributed to this noble cause. Two NGOs’ – Pavitra foundation and Raanjai foundation – also participated in this drive.

River Bhima flows through the southern side of Rajgurunagar city. The city has been suffering from issues like mosquitoes, foul smell, and extinction of aquatic life due to the stagnant water and an unattended cover of water hyacinth. As part of PMI’s commitment towards the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, the PMI Pune chapter took up this project of a volunteer drive of removing water hyacinth from River Bhima in Rajgurunagar.

Faurecia CSR team joined hands with PMI Pune chapter to make this event successful. More than 250 volunteers from PMI & Faurecia spent half their Saturday clearing hyacinth from the riverbed. Pavitra foundation and Nyati Group supported this event by providing their specialized machinery and trained volunteers. Raanjai helped the team to get workers for speeding up the process.

Polluted rivers are growing concern all over the world, this is our small first step in cleaning the polluted river and support the community. We are totally committed to social initiatives like this in the future also. If responsible citizens, administration, social organizations, and corporate join hands – seemingly impossible tasks say ‘I’m Possible!’ ” said Shyam Bhavsar – President PMI Pune-Deccan India Chapter. This event was also attended by Rajarama Rao B. (COO), Omkar Gurjar (VP Development), Amol Kshirsagar (VP Programs) of PMI Pune-Deccan India Chapter “We are happy to be associated with PMI Pune chapter and their efforts towards a social cause. It had been a wonderful and fulfilling experience for all the Faurecians engaged in this event” said Mr. Vidyadhar Limaye (MD Faurecia India Pvt Ltd). This event was also attended by Bertrand Figuères – General Manager (Operations) and Pawan Jaiprakash – HR Director of Forensia Company.

The event was organised and executed by Makrand Hardas (VP Academics), Sangeeta Kanse (VP-Membership), Vidya Chavan, Kapil Gunje of PMI Pune- Deccan India Chapter, and Faurecia CSR team – Parikrama. Senior management of Faurecia and local administration officers ensured that the team does not hit any roadblock.
